The storage of lithium-containing energy carriers must comply with the PGS 37-2 guideline. This guideline distinguishes between new, reconditioned, damaged, repaired, packaged, and unpackaged Li-ion batteries. Not all types of batteries may be stored together. Therefore, the guideline describes how and under what conditions this is permitted.
Furthermore, PGS 37-2 describes guidelines for the location of the storage and for additional safety provisions. It is important to follow these guidelines correctly.
For the storage of lithium-containing energy carriers, KOK Environmental Storage Systems is building fire compartments of less than 300 m².2. These compartments fall within typical profile 1 of PGS 37-2. Storage systems that fall within typical profile 1 are technically similar to storage systems that comply with PGS 15.
Additional facilities required for the storage of lithium-containing energy carriers are an extinguishing system, a fire alarm, and a special gas sensor. KOK Milieuopslagsystemen has this additional ‘PGS 37-2 package’ available.
